Support for validating Nutanix Frames on Google Cloud, shorter verification period and expanded scope of DaaS provision

NTT Data Customer Service provides Desktop as a Service (DaaS) via the Nutanix Frame. NTT was considering Google Cloud for their public cloud expansion. While the Nutanix Frame vendor had verified compatibility with Google Cloud, Cloud Ace helped because it needed to be re-verified for delivery support when NTT DATA Customer Service was deployed in the Japanese market.

Challenges

Nutanix Frame is a solution that allows users to start DaaS quickly and simply by automatically deploying the resources required to the linked public cloud. While the customers can use it without worrying about the resources of the public cloud, it was necessary for us to understand the resources used in order to make a forecast of running costs.

Previously, NTT DATA Customer Service had conducted resource verification of the public cloud to support clients. This required a high level of knowledge about Nutanix Frame and public clouds. Specifically, they needed knowledge about the components of the automatically generated public cloud, such as if it adheres to best practices, and if it is cost-optimized. This required the Nutanix Frame handler to search for answers during every verification, increasing the time required.

Approach

After a meeting with NTT Customer Service’s handler about the operation of Nutanix Frame, and understanding the services and resources at hand, we began discussing verification methods. We also completed knowledge transfers for internally implementing Google Cloud (organization, security, network, etc) from Nutanix Frame’s network structure.

After that, a Cloud Ace engineer reviewed and gave advice on the contents constructed by the person in charge.

Project results

We were able to realize the Nutanix Frame PoC on Google Cloud in about half of the expected verification period. We were also able to identify the resources used, and checked the network configuration.

The knowledge transfer made it possible to grasp the resources to be used, and forecast running costs. These made it possible to actively promote delivery support in the Japanese market.

We were able to verify Nutanix Frame for implementation on Google Cloud, providing a simple “Desktop as a Service” and expanding the market for DaaS.
