EXEDY, an automotive parts manufacturer with a history of more than 70 years, has been promoting the streamlining of meetings with the aim of "language barrier free" to strengthen global group communication capabilities. As part of this effort, EXEDY developed an add-on for email translation using Translation AI, a Google Cloud translation product, and introduced an Office file translation service from Cloud Ace, followed by the introduction of GennAI Prompter, a tool for real-time translation of web conferences.

Challenges

Web meetings with overseas affiliates were being held on Microsoft Teams, and due to the language barrier, extra man-hours were required to take meeting minutes and translate them. By introducing a voice-to-text and real-time translation system, we aimed to facilitate communication between countries and improve operational efficiency.

Approach

Cloud Ace developed a tool that utilizes Translation AI and Speech-to-Text API, two Google Cloud products, to provide a "transparent UI," "real-time translation of the playback (other party's) voice only" and "real-time translation of the recorded voice" as products that can be used regardless of the type of web conference system.

Project Outcome

By utilizing this tool, it has become possible to communicate in general at global meetings with many participants without the need for interpreters by utilizing real-time translation, and the minutes of the meetings have been automated. At present, the tool is mainly used in English, but GennAI Prompter can be used in 110 languages, and we intend to use the tool in other languages in the future to realize true "language barrier-free" communication everywhere and pursue real-time communication that transcends language barriers.
